Automotive SEO for dealers, parts retailers and garages
Automotive SEO is a different job depending on what you sell. A dealer needs vehicle pages that index and a Google Business Profile that converts. A parts retailer needs thousands of fitment pages that do not cannibalise each other. A garage needs to win 'MOT near me'. We have done all three and we build the plan around your trade.
Who we do this for
- Car Dealers
- Car Parts Retailers
- Garages & MOT Centres
- Tuning & Performance
- Breakers & Dismantlers
- Motor Factors & Distributors
Native data integrations
Search is where most motor trade enquiries start, and most automotive sites are losing them to Auto Trader, eBay, Euro Car Parts and the big garage chains. You will not outrank those on head terms. You win on the queries they cannot serve well: your stock, your fitment, your postcode, your specialism.
Technical SEO comes first because automotive sites generate problems at scale. Stock pages that 404 when a car sells. Parts stores with a URL per fitment variation and no canonical. Faceted navigation indexing millions of combinations. Slow vehicle detail pages with forty uncompressed photos. We fix the crawl before we write a word of content.
Then content that answers the questions buyers type: fitment guides, will-it-fit pages, model buying guides, MOT and servicing explainers, spec comparisons. Then links, earned from trade media, clubs, forums, suppliers and manufacturers you already work with, not bought from a marketplace. Everything reports against enquiries and revenue in GA4 and Search Console, not just rankings.
Sound familiar?
You probably need this if
- Auto Trader and eBay outrank your own site for your own stock.
- Your parts store has 20,000 indexed URLs and Search Console says most are duplicates.
- Rankings dropped after a rebuild or platform move and nobody mapped the redirects.
- You publish blog posts about summer driving tips and they bring in nobody who buys.
- Competitors with worse workshops and fewer cars sit above you in the map pack.
- You have never seen an SEO report that mentioned leads or revenue.
Deliverables
What you get
- Technical audit covering crawl, indexation, canonicals, stock and product page lifecycle, Core Web Vitals and schema.
- Keyword research by sector and intent, with one owner page per keyword so pages stop competing with each other.
- Site architecture and internal linking plan for stock, categories, fitment and location content.
- Content briefs and written content: buying guides, fitment guides, service explainers, model pages.
- Schema markup: Vehicle, Product with fitment, AutoRepair, FAQ and LocalBusiness as appropriate.
- Link acquisition from automotive media, suppliers, clubs and trade bodies.
- Monthly reporting in GA4 and Search Console tied to enquiries, calls, bookings and orders.
Technical SEO for automotive sites
Stock and catalogue sites create crawl problems by design. We set rules for what happens when a car sells or a part is discontinued (redirect, 410 or keep with a sold notice), canonicalise fitment and filter variations, control faceted navigation, compress and lazy-load imagery, and deploy Vehicle and Product schema so Google understands what each page is.
Content that answers buyer questions
Buyers search for fitment, comparisons, problems and prices. We build pages for those queries in the words the trade uses, with answer-first paragraphs that AI search can lift, and we keep them updated as stock, models and regulations change.
Dealers, parts retailers and garages: what changes
Dealer work centres on stock page lifecycle, model pages and local signals; we cover it in depth on the car dealer SEO page. Parts work centres on fitment pages, part numbers and product data; see the car parts SEO page. Garages are mostly a local SEO job with service pages behind it.
Process
How we approach it
-
Audit and baseline
Full technical and content audit, Search Console history, competitor SERP analysis for your actual sector. You get a prioritised list, not a ninety-page PDF.
-
Fix the foundations
Redirects, canonicals, indexation rules, page speed and schema, done by developers who can edit the platform rather than send you a list.
-
Keyword ownership map
Every target keyword assigned to one URL. New pages briefed where there is a gap; overlapping pages merged.
-
Content programme
Monthly content written and published against the map, using your workshop, forecourt or catalogue knowledge as the source.
-
Authority
Outreach to trade media, suppliers, clubs and event organisers for links and mentions that Google and AI search actually cite.
-
Report and adjust
Monthly review against leads, not just positions; quarterly re-plan from Search Console page and query data.

Automotive SEO: common questions
How long does automotive SEO take to work?
Technical fixes can show in Search Console within weeks. Content and links compound over months. Expect a measurable change in organic enquiries within three to six months on a site with a sound base, longer on one that needs rebuilding first.
Is SEO different for a dealer and a parts retailer?
Yes. Dealer SEO is about stock pages that index and expire cleanly, model landing pages and local visibility. Parts SEO is about fitment and part-number pages at scale, canonicalisation and product data. Garage SEO is mostly local. The plan differs for each.
Can we outrank Auto Trader or eBay?
Not on a head term like 'used Ford Focus'. You can on your stock, your postcode, your specialism and the questions they do not answer. We target the queries you can win and measure the enquiries they bring.
Do you write the content or do we?
Either. We write from your knowledge: we interview your technicians or sales team, then draft, and you check the facts. Some clients prefer to write and have us edit and optimise.
Do you buy links?
No. Links come from outreach to automotive media, suppliers, clubs, event organisers and partners, and from content worth citing. Paid link schemes are a risk we will not put your business through.
What do you report on?
Organic sessions, enquiries, calls, bookings and revenue from GA4 and Search Console, plus rankings for the keywords in the ownership map. Every report says what changed and what we are doing next.
