Digital agency for motor factors and parts distributors

A motor factor website should let a garage do at 7pm what it does on the phone at 8am: type a reg, see the right part, see branch stock and account price, and order for the next van run. We build trade portals on TecDoc and MAM Autopart data, wired into your ERP, for independents and buying-group members.

Motor factors are the wholesale layer between parts manufacturers and the 23,092 MOT stations and tens of thousands of independent workshops that fit the parts. The nationals set the pace: LKQ Euro Car Parts runs 270-plus UK and Ireland branches serving around 38,000 independent aftermarket customers, and GSF and Alliance Automotive (Parts Alliance) are not far behind on coverage. Regional independents compete through buying groups such as IFA, GROUPAUTO and UAN, on relationships, on the van that arrives in forty minutes, and increasingly on whether the garage can order online at all. The whole aftermarket is worth around £17 billion in GVA and supports 339,000 jobs; the factor sits in the middle of it.

The counter runs on MAM Autocat, the VRM-driven catalogue used by 11,000-plus counter staff, with MAM Autopart or Kerridge K8 as the business system, TecDoc data underneath, HaynesPro to narrow the fitment, and Sage or an ERP for accounts. The problem is that all of that stops at the counter. Most independent factors have a brochure website, no trade login, no branch stock visibility and no way for a garage to order outside opening hours. The nationals have portals with VRM lookup, live stock, account pricing and click-and-collect, and the garage that uses one at night is the garage you lose during the day. Garage-facing marketing is usually a monthly PDF of trade offers.

We build the trade portal the counter would design. VRM lookup returns the vehicle and the TecDoc K-Type; the catalogue shows the articles you stock with fitment criteria, OE cross-references and supersessions; the garage sees its own account price tier, live stock by branch and the next delivery slot; the order lands in Autopart or K8 with credit checked against the ERP. Around that we add branch click-and-collect, van-run scheduling, returns and surcharge handling, and a garage-facing email programme with offers that are actually segmented by what each account buys. For factors who also sell retail, the same catalogue runs a consumer store without a second data set.

The usual problems

  • Trade portal UX a decade behind consumer eCommerce

Garages order from Amazon at home and from a fax-era portal at work, or ring you because the portal is worse than the phone.

  • Data from hundreds of suppliers in hundreds of formats

TecDoc packages, MAM exports, supplier spreadsheets and PDFs all describe the same part differently, and someone has to make one catalogue of it.

  • Branch stock nobody outside can see

Autopart or K8 knows which branch has the part; the garage does not, so it phones three branches or orders from the national.

  • Account pricing and credit locked in the ERP

Tiered pricing, rebates and credit limits live in the back office, so online ordering either shows list price or nothing.

  • Van runs scheduled on a whiteboard

Delivery slots, driver routes and urgent drops are not connected to the order, so promises made at the counter do not match the van.

  • Garage marketing is a monthly PDF

Trade offers go to everyone regardless of what they buy, and there is no data on which accounts opened, ordered or lapsed.

Motor Factors & Distributors: common questions

Can a motor factor website integrate with MAM Autopart?

Yes. We integrate trade portals with MAM Autopart and Kerridge K8 for stock, pricing and order posting, and with Autocat or TecDoc Web Services for the catalogue, so an online order appears in the branch system exactly as a counter order would.

How does account pricing work on a trade portal?

The garage logs in and sees its own price tier, rebates and credit status pulled from your business system or ERP. Guests see list or retail price, or nothing, as you choose. Pricing is never duplicated on the website; the portal reads it from the source.

Can garages see stock by branch and choose delivery or collection?

Yes. Live stock by branch comes from Autopart or K8, the garage picks click-and-collect or the next van-run slot for its area, and the order is routed to the right branch with the delivery promise attached.

Where does the catalogue data come from?

TecDoc via licensed data or Web Services, MAM Autocat exports, your supplier files and OE cross-reference tables, cleansed and merged into one catalogue so each article appears once with its fitment, criteria and your stock code.

Do you build consumer stores for factors as well as trade portals?

Yes. The same catalogue, stock and fitment data can run a retail store with a reg-lookup parts finder, with retail pricing and card payment, so factors who sell to the public do not maintain a second product database.
