Car Parts eCommerce

Magento car parts eCommerce for retailers, factors and manufacturers

Magento car parts stores are the right call when the catalogue is big, the customers are trade as well as retail, and one back end has to run several storefronts. We build on Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce with TecDoc catalogues, B2B company accounts, tiered pricing, ERP links and marketplace sync.

Magento is built for complexity. Its catalogue uses an attribute model that copes with parts data (dozens of attributes per product, different sets per category), its layered navigation filters large catalogues on a search index, and one installation can run multiple websites and store views from a single admin: a retail brand, a trade portal and a manufacturer's own site sharing one catalogue and one stock pool. That is why motor factors, distributors and aftermarket manufacturers end up on it.

The choice is Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce. Open Source is free to licence and covers most retail parts stores. Adobe Commerce adds the B2B module (company accounts with multiple users and roles, shared catalogues with customer-specific pricing, requisition lists, quotes, purchase orders and credit), page builder, customer segmentation and Adobe's cloud hosting. For a trade parts business the B2B module alone often justifies the licence; for a retail-only store it rarely does.

Fitment on Magento is usually delivered through a TecDoc extension or a custom module against TecAlliance data, with UK registration lookup added through a vehicle data API. ERP integration is common: stock, prices and customers from MAM Autopart, Sage, SAP or a bespoke system. Marketplace sync goes through M2E Pro or a bespoke connector with K-Type compatibility attached. Frontend is a Hyvä theme for speed or Luma customised, with headless (PWA Studio or a separate frontend) where the project warrants it.

Sound familiar?

You probably need this if

  • You run a trade counter, a retail website and a brand site on three systems with three stock figures.
  • Your ERP is the source of truth and your website is updated from it by hand.
  • Trade customers need contract pricing, credit accounts and order approval, and the store cannot do it.
  • You are on Magento 1 or an old Magento 2 release and every extension is out of support.
  • The catalogue has 50,000 lines of TecDoc data and the site cannot filter it.

B2B on Magento for motor factors

Trade parts businesses need what Adobe Commerce B2B provides: company accounts where a garage has several buyers with different permissions, shared catalogues that show each customer their negotiated prices, requisition lists for repeat orders, quote negotiation, purchase orders with approval and account credit. We configure it around how your trade counter already works, connect it to the ERP for live stock and pricing, and give branch staff a screen that works on a counter tablet.

Multi-store and brand sites

Aftermarket manufacturers and distributors often need a brand site with a where-to-buy locator, a trade portal and a retail store. On Magento these are store views and websites on one admin, sharing a catalogue while showing different prices, content and checkout rules. Product data is maintained once and published everywhere.

Hosting and upkeep

Magento is demanding to host and needs regular security patches and upgrades. We specify hosting sized to catalogue and traffic (Adobe Commerce cloud, or dedicated infrastructure for Open Source), run a deployment pipeline so releases are repeatable, and maintain the platform under a retainer so extensions and core stay current.

Process

How we approach it

  1. Discovery

We map catalogue size, customer types, pricing rules, ERP and the storefronts you need. This decides Open Source versus Adobe Commerce and whether B2B is required.

  2. Architecture

Websites, store views, attribute sets, fitment model, pricing structure and integration points designed and documented before build.

  3. Build in phases

Catalogue and fitment first, then storefronts, then B2B and integrations, each demonstrated on staging with real data.

  4. Integration and migration

ERP, marketplace and payment connections built and tested; data and URLs migrated from the old platform with redirects mapped.

  5. Launch and maintain

Performance testing, security review, launch, then a retainer for Magento security patches, version upgrades and extension updates.

Magento Car Parts Store: common questions

Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce for a parts store?

Open Source for retail-focused parts stores; Adobe Commerce when you need the B2B module (company accounts, shared catalogues, quotes, purchase orders, credit) or Adobe's cloud hosting. We make the licence case in writing rather than defaulting to the expensive option.

Can Magento run a retail site and a trade portal from one catalogue?

Yes. Magento's multi-website and store view model lets one installation serve retail, trade and brand storefronts with shared products and stock, different pricing, and separate domains and designs.

How do you handle TecDoc data in Magento?

Either a TecDoc extension against a TecAlliance licence or a custom fitment module we build. Both link products to K-Types for vehicle filtering and marketplace compatibility, and we add UK registration lookup on top.

Can Magento integrate with our ERP?

Yes. We connect stock, pricing, customers and orders to MAM Autopart, Sage, SAP or a bespoke system through APIs or scheduled feeds, with the ERP as the source of truth where that is how your business runs.

We are on an old Magento version. Should we upgrade or move?

Magento 1 has been out of support since 2020 and old 2.x releases no longer get security patches, so staying put is not an option. If your needs are still B2B, multi-store and large catalogue, upgrade on Magento. If they are simpler, Shopify or WooCommerce may cost less to run.
